What Makes Gold Creations' Ironwork Jewelry Different

Every Gold Creations ironwork piece is modeled on a real Charleston gate, made in 14K gold or 925 sterling silver, and boxed with its own story card.

What makes our Charleston ironwork jewelry different comes down to a few things we won't compromise on. Every piece is modeled on a real, named Charleston gate with an address you can visit. Each design is created by a family that has been part of the Historic Charleston City Market since 1975. And every gate is made in 14K gold or 925 sterling silver, then boxed with a card that tells its story. Here's a closer look at each one.

Every Design Starts With a Real Gate

Plenty of jewelry borrows the look of Charleston ironwork, a scroll here or a curl there. Our Charleston Classic Ironwork collection starts somewhere more specific. Each piece is modeled after one actual gate in the city, from the Old Exchange Gate on East Bay Street to the Pirate Gate on Church Street and the 5 King Gate near the Battery.

That means every gate has a name, an address and a history behind it. You can stand in front of the real thing, then look down at the piece in your hand and see the same bars and curves. If you'd like to know where each one stands, our guide to the real gates behind Charleston's ironwork jewelry walks through all six.

Designed in Charleston by a Family That Knows These Streets

Gold Creations was founded by Glenn and Vicki Wolfe in 1975, and it is still family-owned today. The ironwork designs are created by their son Patrick, who knows these streets well. Every design starts from an original mold designed right here in the heart of downtown Charleston.

That local connection shapes the details. Choosing which gates join the collection, deciding how much of each pattern to keep and making sure the proportions still read clearly at a small size are all decisions made by people who know these streets well.

Real Gold and Sterling Silver, Made to Last

Every gate in the collection is made in solid 14K yellow gold or in sterling silver stamped 925. The 925 stamp is the standard to look for, confirming the piece is 92.5% pure silver. Sterling silver is a beautiful keepsake that just needs a little care to stay bright, while 14K gold holds its shine with almost no upkeep. A few 14K gold pendants are also set with mother of pearl for a softer look.

Because each gate is a Gold Creations Original and starts from an original mold, select pieces can also be special ordered in white or rose gold. Every piece is backed by our Gold Creations warranty, so you can wear it with confidence. Still deciding on metal? Our 14K gold vs. sterling silver guide breaks down durability, care and price.

Made to Be Worn Your Way

Most gates come as a pendant, a pair of earrings and a ring, so you can wear one piece or build a matching set around your favorite gate. Pendants are offered in four sizes, from a small everyday size that layers easily to an extra large statement piece that stands on its own.

Gate pendants also mix well with classic everyday jewelry. Pair one with a simple chain or a pair of studs from our Essentials Edit, or explore our Charleston Diamond Cut Ironwork Jewelry for another take on the same Charleston ironwork.

A Story in Every Box

Every gate comes boxed with a collection card that names the gate and tells where it stands in Charleston. It's a small touch, but it changes how the piece feels. Whether you're buying for yourself or someone else, the story travels with the jewelry, and anyone who asks about your pendant gets the full history.

That's what we mean when we say Take Home a Piece of Charleston®. It isn't just a design that looks like the city. It's a piece tied to a real place you can go back and visit.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Charleston gate jewelry real silver?

Ours is. Every sterling silver gate from Gold Creations is stamped 925, the standard for genuine sterling silver, and our gold gates are solid 14K yellow gold. When shopping for any gate jewelry, look for a 925 stamp on silver and a karat stamp on gold.

Is Gold Creations' ironwork jewelry made in Charleston?

Every design starts from an original mold designed right here in the heart of downtown Charleston, and our 14K gold gates are made in the USA. We've been offering our gate jewelry in the Historic Charleston City Market for more than 20 years.

Can I get a Charleston gate in white or rose gold?

Yes, on select designs. The collection is offered in 14K yellow gold and sterling silver, and because each gate is a Gold Creations Original, select pieces can be special ordered in white or rose gold. Stop by or contact the shop to ask about a specific gate.
