Gold Filled 1940's 11mm Hinged Bangle with Filigree Pattern and Monogram

Produced by the Walter E. Hayward Company of E. Attleboro, Massachusetts. The company was founded in 1851 and underwent a number of partner changes until 1891 when it was incorporated under the above-mentioned name. The company was known for its production of gold-filled jewelry from 1920 to 1950. The company used the name Hayward as its mark until 1957 when it changed its mark to WEH. The company eventually merged with A and Z Chain in 1971 with the name changed to Amtel Co. The fact that this bangle is also marked 1/20 12K also helps date the bangle as the federal government passed a law in 1933 requiring gold fill jewelry and the amount to be marked.
