Angel Oak

The 210th tree registered with the Live Oak Society, the Angel Oak is a Southern live oak (Quercus virginiana) located in Angel Oak Park on Johns Island near Charleston, South Carolina. The Angel Oak is estimated to be at least 400 years old. It stands 66.5 ft. tall, measures 28 ft. in circumference, and produces shade over 17,200 sq. ft. Deriving its name from the estate of Justis and Martha Angel, folklore tells of former plantation workers appearing as angels around the tree.
